About Minecraft
Minecraft 1.8, the "Bountiful Update" released in 2015, is still a favourite for PvP and minigame servers. It is the version Eaglercraft brings to the browser, with survival, creative, crafting and the classic world generation.
Minecraft in the browser
EaglercraftX is a community project that compiles Minecraft 1.8.8 for the web. On WASM Arcade it loads about 50 MB, needs WebGL 2 and works best with a keyboard and mouse. Worlds live in your browser storage, so export them before clearing site data. Pressing Play also opens a sponsor tab.
How to play Minecraft online
- Use a desktop browser (Chrome or Edge works best).
- Click “Play now”. The game opens in a new tab on the original project's site.
- Wait for the first load; big games can download hundreds of MB.
- Click inside the game to capture the mouse. Press Esc to release it.
⚠ Never download a launcher or .exe from a browser game page.
Tips for Minecraft
- Allow persistent storage for the site so your worlds are not wiped by the browser.
- Export important worlds as an EPK file from the world menu to back them up.
- On weaker computers, lower the render distance in Options › Video Settings.

Can I play Minecraft online for free?
Yes. Minecraft 1.8.8 (Eaglercraft) opens in a browser tab on the project's own site, with no download and no sign-up.
Do I need to install Minecraft?
No. Everything runs inside the browser tab. Close the tab and nothing stays on your computer apart from the browser cache.
Does Minecraft work on a phone or Chromebook?
It is built for desktop browsers. Chromebooks with an up-to-date Chrome usually work if they have enough memory; phones are not officially supported.
Why is Minecraft not loading?
Fan-made browser ports often run on small servers. Wait a minute and refresh, use Chrome or Edge on a desktop, close other heavy tabs, and make sure no extension is blocking the page.
Is this the official Minecraft?
